President's Biography

With over 30 years in higher education, Dr. Veronica Garcia has led Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) since 2017, transforming it through visionary leadership and a strong commitment to student success and community engagement. Under her leadership, NLC has been recognized as a Great Place to Work, one of the 10 Most Admired Colleges and Universities to Watch, and among the 50 Best Community Colleges in the U.S.

Dr. Garcia played a key role in the Alamo Colleges District, receiving the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award twice and being named an Achieving the Dream Leader College of Distinction.

She launched NLC’s Culture of Care initiative, streamlining student services and aligning academic and student affairs to better support students. Her advocacy for veterans led to the creation of two Veterans Centers and the securing of $7.7 million from the State of Texas for a dedicated Veterans Center at NLC, earning the Gold Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award.

Dr. Garcia actively supports regional economic development through the Northeast Partnership and the Schertz-Cibolo-Selma Chamber of Commerce. She’s built strong ties with local ISDs and municipalities, recently opening a satellite site in New Braunfels to better serve the Northeast Corridor.

Her leadership and service have earned her numerous accolades, including:

Appointed to the City of Garden Ridge’s Board of Adjustment, she continues to serve through public and educational leadership. She mentors for the National Community College Hispanic Council and taught leadership for PCC’s Excellence Cohort.

Dr. Garcia holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education (Oregon State), M.Ed. in Leadership (Northern Arizona), B.S. in Business (University of Arizona), and an associate degree from Pima Community College. Her dedication to equity, excellence, and care continues to shape the future of NLC and beyond.
